Running a Refresh
The full sweep that rebuilds automatic organization — how it runs, what it may and may not change, and what its report is telling you.
On this page
Day to day, MediaFlow keeps up incrementally: editing one page rescans one page. The full refresh is the maintenance action you ask for when the whole tree needs rebuilding.
When you need one
- After changing your automatic organization settings. MediaFlow says so: “Your automatic organization settings changed. Run a refresh to rebuild the folders they describe.”
- After turning automatic organization on for the first time.
- After a term deletion that affected more than 200 posts.
- After importing content, which does not trigger incremental updates.
Running it
Go to Media → MediaFlow → Settings and press Refresh now.
Because each batch does a bounded amount of work, a large library refreshes in steps rather than in one long request that might time out.
It is safe to run twice
The refresh is idempotent: running it three times with no content changes creates, renames and removes nothing. The result does not depend on the batch size either.
What it may and may not do
| May | May not |
|---|---|
| Create automatic folders | Delete an attachment |
| Rename automatic folders | Change a URL or upload path |
| Move automatic folders | Edit any of your content |
| Delete automatic folders and their relationships | Touch a folder you made |
Reading the report
Afterwards MediaFlow reports what it actually did, not an estimate:
- content items scanned
- folders checked, created, renamed and removed
- media relationships added
- stale relationships removed
Counters that stayed at zero are not printed, so a short report means little changed — which, on a second consecutive run, is exactly what you want to see.
Frequently asked questions
Can I run a refresh on a large site?
Yes. It is batched precisely so it cannot time out. It will take longer, and the tab needs to stay open.
Will a refresh undo my manual folders?
No. The organizer never reads or writes a folder you made.
Do I need to refresh after every edit?
No. Editing content updates its folders as you go. The full refresh is for settings changes and bulk events.
The refresh stopped with an error. What now?
Nothing is left half-done in a way that a second run cannot fix — the sweep is idempotent. Run it again. If it stops repeatedly, check that the licence is still active.
