Testing & Preview
Before an email ever reaches a customer, you can see exactly how it looks and send yourself a real copy — right from the template editor.
On this page
Where to find it: the Preview and Send test buttons inside any template editor (SubscriptionFlow → Email Center → [tab] → Edit).
What this does
- Preview renders the email with realistic sample data in a live panel, so you can check layout, wording, and that placeholders resolve.
- Send test emails the rendered template to any address you choose, so you can see it in a real inbox.
Both use sample values (your own account is used as the demo customer), so you can test safely without touching real customers.
How to use it
Preview
- Edit any template and make your changes.
- Click Preview.
- The panel re‑renders with sample data. Adjust wording and preview again until it looks right.
Send test
- In the same editor, type an address in the test field (defaults to something like
you@example.com). - Click Send test.
- Check that inbox. A confirmation message appears in the editor.
Test sends are lightly rate‑limited (a few seconds between sends) to prevent accidental spamming.
Tips & Best Practices
-
Preview after every edit — placeholders and formatting are easy to get slightly wrong.
-
Send a real test to yourself before enabling an email for customers — the inbox view can differ from the preview.
-
Test on mobile too — open the test email on your phone to check it reads well on small screens.
-
If tests don’t arrive, your site likely can’t send mail — set up SMTP (see the Troubleshooting guide) and check the Logs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the preview use real customer data?
No — it uses safe sample values (with your own account as the stand‑in customer).
Does a test email get logged?
Yes — it appears in Logs with the trigger test.
Why can’t I send another test immediately?
There’s a short cool‑down between test sends. Wait a few seconds and try again.
The preview looks fine but the test email doesn’t arrive — why?
Preview renders locally; sending depends on your site’s mail configuration. Configure SMTP and re‑check the Logs.
